Catching Fireflies: A New Queer Musical

Philly queers at a WaffleHouse.

Starting as a quarantine project, “Catching Fireflies” is Flynn’s passion project folk musical that centers on a writer coming to terms with his gender identity amidst his queer friend group of artists stuck together in Philadelphia over the 2020 pandemic. Through intertwining love triangles, questioning of common queer stereotypes, & conversations between her authentic and physical self, our writer explores what it means to reach your full potential as an artist and an individual. The show has had several workshops & staged readings, including a three-weekend Off-Broadway run at the Players Theater in January 2025 and a full concept album produced with Lorien Sound. The show is next headed to the Philadelphia Fringe Festival for a run at the Drake Proscenium Theater September 19th-24th!

Listen to Our Concept Album!

Produced by Lorien Sound Recording Studios in the heart of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, this concept album captures the full unabridged original score, featuring an incredible cast of vocalists and live instrumentalists. While the show has gone through a couple iterations since, this version provides an authentic look at the music and the heart of the story. It was this recording of “Drunk Monroe,” that went on to get the song placed as a Top 10 Finalist in Taylor Louderman’s “Write Out Loud” Musical Theater Songwriting Contest.
